A Tribute – The Passing of a Good Man
As is my custom, I try to post my blog every 2 weeks. It is time to post, but it will be a short update and a heartfelt tribute to my stepfather.
A Tribute
My step-father, Everett Wayne Green passed away on Sunday, August 12th. He was a wonderful husband and father, a WWII Navy pilot, an avid reader and one of the nicest men I have ever known. He was buried yesterday with full Masonic rites, and a military funeral, in the military cemetery here in Texas. I am in Arlington to be with mother and the rest of the family this week.

The webpage for Stones Thoreau – Farm to Market is now up and running. Although I have a place for videos, I have been recalcitrant in following the instructions of my great videographer – Amy Radding with the Center for Rural Affairs, and will have them posted as soon as possible. My web designer, Steve Maly in Lincoln, has done a fabulous job of getting the framework up, and in a condition that I can begin to add content myself, but it will be next week before he can attempt to teach me how to do it. The Garden and Farmers Market
The gardens are growing and producing at a level that is difficult to keep up with. Watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydews, okra, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, winter squash, purple hull peas, beets, fresh herbs are being sold at the farmers market, to the Senior Center for to be served for the county’s seniors, and dried, frozen or canned for future use. If you have not had the opportunity to visit the farmers market know that there are plenty of canning tomatoes available by the flat, as well as eggplant and herbs price well below grocery store prices.
Thanks to everyone for helping to get my produce picked and sold while I am gone, and thank you for your prayers and good wishes while we are here with mother.

Preston and Diane, your support is so greatly appreciated. Wayne went peacefully after several months in assisted living and later, in the hospital. He was a courageous fighter – but, he is now out of pain and into the peace he so rightfully deserves.
